Hi helps me each day with my therapy. I really appreciate his help. Irene and I worked at Genealogy Library. It was really cold today. Three or four people came to the library.

We went to church today. Our church is at 9:30 AM. We are in the Brush Hills ward in Salem, Oregon. We came home and took a nap. We are going to have chicken parmesan for dinner. It is sunny today, but not too cold. This January has been the 3rd warmest Salem has ever seen, and I am glad for that! I am glad January is finally over with.

I exercised in the morning for about 30 minutes. Nathanael played paintball from 8:30-12:30. I took him to school to study around 1:30 and I went grocery shopping at Wal-Mart. We had quesadillas for dinner and then watched the movie "Philadelphia."

Relief Society board meeting tonight at Ethel Hendersons. Daisie Nelson and I rode to meeting and back with Becky Pincock. No school in Rexburg because of sub-zero weather.

I worked for several hours. I exercised for about 45 minutes. I cleaned our apartment and made chicken enchilada soup for dinner. Kera and William and Ethan Boaz came to dinner at 6:30 and brought sweet rolls for dessert. They stayed until about 9:45 PM. Nathanael and I watched the movie "Stardust" after they left.

Sandra Overlie (a nurse that has taken care of Hiram and Margaret) has been invited to visit tonight. Hiram and Margaret walked in the morning. Hiram helped me with therapy. Sandy came about 4:00 pm. Hi and I made an apple pie. Hi made a green salad and Sandy made the sandwiches. We had punch with grape juice. We enjoyed the dinner and visited. I gave Sandy a pair of butterflies (dusty rose). Hi asked her about her religion. She has had the LDS missionaries over once but hasn't had time because of classes and work. We told her to call us. I cleaned up the dishes.

This morning I woke up around 8:45 AM. I worked for a couple hours and then I exercised. I did P90X shoulders & arms work-out for about 40 minutes. I worked for a couple more hours. I talked to Lisa on the phone today and Aaron for awhile. At 7:00 PM I went to the church for an enrichment meeting because I am on the enrichment committee. When I came back Nathanael was here and he had done all the dishes. It was a nice surprise. We played Scrabble and watched the Gonzaga vs. Santa Clara basketball game. I won the Scrabble game, which was my first time ever winning. It was exciting. :)

Our stake conference was today at 1:30 pm at Pocatello stake house on South Front. This was the 1st conference of the Pocatello Idaho Central Stake. We attended this session and the one on Saturday. We called Sandra Overlie to come visit us Monday.

Mary-Anne Says:
I am going to do something different. I haven't been doing well at all at doing something my grandma did, so instead, I am just going to make this my little journal like grandma did. I'll just write down the things I did in the day. Not much detail, just facts. It'll make for a good journal. Maybe in 25 or 50 years someone will be interested in what I was doing way back in 2010. :) Probably not, but it will be good for me to look back on. So here it goes:

I woke up to a text at 8:15 AM from a good friend who shared some very exciting news. I worked for a few hours. I went and saw Nathanael at the law school around 2:00 pm and we went on a walk and had a good talk. I came back and worked for a little bit more. At 7:30 I went with my friend Kera to Best Buy so she could buy a new computer that is compatible with work because she just got a job with Telenotes (the company I work for). After that we had dinner at Red Robin and went on a drive and had a good talk. She is a very good friend. I went to bed around 11:30.

Hi worked on sanding and painting banks. I did 4 batches of washing. I cleaned the drain tray and rack and part of counter top. We have a session of stake conference at 7 PM at Central Stake Center on Oakwood Drive.

Friday, January 25, 1985

Barbara Williams called yesterday morning and Hi took her to the new Albertson's to get a kit and order her a uniform. She is going to work there starting February 4th. I gave her a copy for her and for Susanne Williams of the emergency items. I shampooed my hair and did it up. Hi and I shopped for groceries and some emergency items.

Thursday, January 24, 1985

Hi took Irene and I to the Genealogy Library at 1:00 pm. We worked until 5:00 pm. Hiram came and took us home. We had another meeting at Genealogy Library from 7:30 to 8:30 pm. Hi worked on banks sanding them. We sent Medicare photo copy to Blue Shield of Idaho on Dr. Samuelson bill and prescriptions for December.

Wednesday, January 23, 1985

Kathy called Hi and wanted us to go out to help her decide on linoleum. In the meantime, she sprayed something in her oven and turned it on and it made a lot of smoke. Hi and I took a big fan out and opened windows and it blew out the smoke. We stayed there until 3:30 or 4:00 pm. Kathy sewed up some pants for Telena and Kathy cleaned the oven. I folded clothes. Tonight our home teacher Brother Pehrson came.
Wednesday late afternoon Sister Chandler, our Relief Society President, came over and asked me (Margaret) to be the ward Relief Society visiting teaching board member over all the visiting teaching supervisors.

Tuesday, January 22, 1985

Hiram put the washing machine back together. I washed sheets, blankets and pillow cases, mattress covers and towels and washcloths. Heidi and Kimmie came here after school because their other grandmother wasn't home. Ralph came here and picked them up and took them home. Hi and I visited Emma Davis again today. Hi vacuumed the front room.

Monday, January 21, 1985

Typed up prescription for December 1984 to send to Blue Shield of Idaho. Hi went to see Dr. Call today to check pacemaker. It is okay. Hi is to take Carafote and Tagamet 4 times a day. I went with Hi to the doctor. We went grocery shopping. Hi and I went to visit Emma Davis. She was weak. We helped her into the living room. We told her to call us if she needs us.

We went to church at 5th Ward. The Priesthood got books on emergency info. We visited Mr. and Mrs. Davies.

Hi is checking the washer while I wash clothes to see where it is leaking. We are going to church ... to see about 72 hour emergency kits and films of earth quakes, gas fires, winter hazards, etc.

Friday, January 18, 1985

Kathy and Roger went to the temple for a marriage and sealing this morning. We took care of Gregory. Telena stayed with a friend. Karlee and Blake went to school and Telena will go to school with her friend. Party at Irene's this evening. Hi and I and Edna went to Irene and Wendell's at 6:00 pm to have dinner and visit. She had a very nice dinner and we enjoyed everything. I helped Irene clean up after Edna left.

Thursday I went to the genealogy library with Irene from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Hi and Brother Call went home teaching this evening. I did dishes and watched a show about a woman who had cancer and she found families to take and raise each child. The two boys went together -


Mary-Anne says:
I finally finished watching "The Thorn Birds" that my grandparents watched last week. It was kind of good. Pretty depressing and a lot of people die. Apparently it won 5 Emmy awards in 1983, so it must have been good 27 years ago. :)

We got up early. Telena took a bath. We took Telena to school at 12 noon and picked all three children up at the school at 2:30 pm. Hi and I went to drug store and grocery store in between. I made pizza for supper. Roger and Kathy got home about 7:00 or 8:00 pm. They had pizza too.

Mary-Anne Says:
We also had pizza for dinner today, although we didn't make it. We had Papa Murhpy's. We went to our friends the Boaz's who provided the pizza for us and played games the entire evening. It was fun.

I worked on cleaning some pans and wiped out one cupboard shelf. Kathy and Roger are going to Salt Lake tonight. Roger has a business meeting. They brought Telena for us to take care of. Telena slept on the living room floor. She got up a couple of times in the night.

Sunday, January 13, 1985

"Hi and I went to all our meetings at 5th Ward. Troy and Susanne and two children were there. We ate lunch at home. Hi and I went to Kathy's to give Karlee a birthday present and we had ice cream and cake. Roger came just before we went home."

I didn't do anything that my grandma did today, but I did get "The Thorn Birds" in the mail today from Netflix, so I watched the first 4 hours. Yes, I said 4 hours. Apparently it was a TV mini series based on a novel. It was made in 1983 and the acting is probably the worst I've ever seen (aside from Twilight, of course...ha ha) The storyline is so awkward and a little creepy, yet I am still intrigued. I want to know what happens. It's a little risque (for 1983) so I am a little surprised that my grandparents were watching this show. However, it's kind of fun knowing that a few days ago (25 years ago) my grandparents were watching this movie, and now my husband and I are watching the movie. Well, Nathanael only agreed to watch it if we played Scrabble while it was on, so he didn't have to pay full attention to the movie. :) Anyway... kind of fun.

"Bought groceries at Smith's. Took bananas to Kathy and Ralph. I did 2 batches of washing and washed two shelves in kitchen cupboard. "

Although it's not exactly the same, I did do my grocery shopping today (though it was at Walmart, not Smith's. ) and I did a load of laundry (although it's still sitting on my couch waiting to be folded, which I'm sure my grandma did not leave her laundry sitting out. I'm sure she folded and put it away right away. All well.) I think it still counts.

I was supposed to be trying to do something everyday that I could to do something that my grandma did, but I'm finding that to be a little harder than I thought (especially considering I didn't start this blog until yesterday, January 10th, so I have 10 days of catching up to do!). However, I have rented the movie "The Thorn Birds" on my Netflix, so I will watch it in a few days and let you know how it goes. :) As for 25 years ago in the life of Margaret Talbot...she says:

"I watered flowers. Hi helped me with therapy. I fixed breakfast then helped Hi with some gluing in linoleum in the west cupboards. I went with Kathy to Westwood and I sat in the car with Gregory. He was asleep. I went to I(?) Bank and deposited medicare check and got photo copies. We came home and we gave Kathy our old toaster. Hi and I got pills for Hi at Osco.

Thursday, January 10, 1985

Either DUP at June Martineau and/or worked at Genealogy Library. I got my therapy done and got ready to help Hi with the linoleum in cupboards. At 1:30 Irene came and took me to the JuneMartineau to DUP. At 3 PM we went to Genealogy Library and helped people there until 5 PM. Hi and I ate dinner then watched the end of the show "The Thorn Birds."

I went visiting teaching with Sister King. We went to the Bannock Hospital to visit Sister Emma Davis. Hi put linoleum in the pan shelves on the east side of kitchen. They look nice. We watched the Barbara Mandell Show.

I got my therapy done and got cleaned up. We had lunch. Hi and I went to Westwood Mall. Hi bought linoleum to put on cupboard shelves. I had Lana Schritter put color on my hair and set it.

Monday, January 7, 1985

Mel had to take insurance test at ISU. Margaret had 6 month check up at Dr. Cox's office. We got home about noon. Peg & Mel were here. We fixed dinner for them & us. Mel took a nap. Peg and Hi and I visited and looked at pictures.

Hi didn't sleep well. We went to Relief Society and Priesthood meetings then we came home. I fixed stew for dinner. We watched part of "The Thorn Birds."

Hi and I went to the mini dome about 2:30 or so to see the agricultural displays. We bought some groceries at Safeway. We went to the 9th Ward in the evening to Larry Bennett's wedding reception. Bodily's were there and I visited with several ladies. Hi visited with a man he had worked with at State Highway.

I worked at Genealogy Library with Irene and Judy Barrett. Irene is leaving tonight to go with Mike Belnap to Orem to see Wendy, Jody and baby girl. Mike is going to school at BYU. Irene plans to be back next Tuesday with Dorothy.

Wednesday, January 2, 1985

Kathy and I picked up our things (my butterflies) at Creative Arts. I sold 6 sets to a lady who works there. I did 3 batches of washing. Hi took pans out of cupboards. We washed new pans. Some things will go to Deseret Industries. I should get paid for butterflies on Jan. 10, 1985.

New Year's Day
We watched parades on TV and Hi watched ball games on New Year's Day. We stayed up until 1 AM so Hi and I slept late. I talked to Kathy. They were going to dinner with Clarence and Marcine then go to their house to see movies. Hi and I went to lunch at Sizzler. We had shrimp and salad. Hi didn't feel good when he got thru eating so we came home. Hi watched ball games. I took a long nap in the afternoon.
